1) What initially drew you to cigar smoking, and how has your passion for cigars evolved over time?
It was curiosity that initially drew me to cigars. I did not know much about them and wanted to give them a try. Over time, my curiosity turned into appreciation, and that appreciation morphed into a comfort zone.
2) In a historically male-dominated hobby, what challenges have you faced as a female cigar enthusiast, and how have you navigated these challenges?
As a female cigar smoker, I have faced many challenges over the years. When I first started, women were not as common in the cigar space as they are now. I often felt like I was in a male-dominated environment and was questioned about my presence and knowledge of cigars. Despite the initial intimidation, it fueled my desire to learn and build my confidence in this space. Now, I confidently engage with anyone about the cigar lifestyle.
3) Can you share a memorable experience or journey that epitomizes your love for cigars and the cigar culture?
There is not one standout moment that I have had during my years growing within the cigar world. Every time I sit to smoke a cigar brings its own experience. From the flavors that I taste to the people that I may encounter, each smoke session has served its purpose for that specific moment in time.
4) As a female aficionado, do you notice any unique perspectives or preferences you bring to the cigar community, whether in terms of cigar selection, pairings, or social interactions?
I take pleasure in interacting with women who are interested in cigars but are uncertain about how or where to start. I find this enjoyable because I have been in their shoes and understand how it feels. It enables me to establish a more personal connection with women who show interest in this lifestyle. I strive to eliminate any feelings of intimidation or judgment that may exist and simplify the process of entering the world of cigars.
5) How do you envision the future of cigar culture evolving, especially concerning the inclusion and representation of women? What changes would you like to see in the industry?
I have noticed an increase in the presence of women in the cigar industry, as more women-owned cigar brands and lounges are emerging. It’s a positive development that I am happy to see. Overall, cigars are gaining more popularity, which is great. However, I hope that the true essence of the cigar lifestyle is not lost. One of the things I have always enjoyed about visiting a cigar lounge is the diverse group of people I encounter. It’s a space where individuals from all walks of life come together to share their love for cigars. Whether you’re there to socialize and make connections or simply to relax in a quiet corner, it’s a place of comfort. I hope that this inclusive and welcoming atmosphere remains as more lounges open and more people join the cigar community.
6) Which cigars are in your current top 3 must try and why?
My list of top-ranking cigars is continuously changing but as of now I would say my top 3 are as follows (in no particular order):
- Foundation Olmec
- CAO Brazilia
- Southern Draw Jacobs Ladder
Each of these cigars has stood out to me in their way from either their flavorful impact and/or the quality of the cigar. I know for a fact that one of these cigars will bring me the peace that I need after a stressful day.
